9 Mins Of “Star Trek” Sequel With “Hobbit”

Late last year we saw the opening sequence of Warners’ “The Dark Knight Rises” premiere in front of Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

Now the studios are swapping places with Paramount Pictures announcing that they will premiere the opening nine minutes from J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” on 500 IMAX 3D screens in front of Warners’ “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” starting December 14th.

Like ‘Knight’, several sequences of the film were shot using IMAX cameras, including this opening piece. While “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises” previewed their opening sequences in IMAX before, this will mark the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D.

While both the ‘Knight’ films simultaneously released a teaser trailer to premiere in regular theaters at the same time, there’s no word as yet if the same thing will happen here.
