Sunday 3AM: It broke many opening weekend records in its international release, now “Marvel’s The Avengers” is about to do the same in the United States.
Deadline reports that the film scored a whopping $ 80.5 million on Friday (including $ 18.7M in midnight previews), while it’s looking like it’ll nab an incredible $ 68+ million haul this Saturday.
Even with the expected Sunday drop off, the film will breeze past current top record holder “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two” which scored $ 169.2 million for its three-day opening weekend.
The real question is how close the Sunday revenues will get it to $ 200 million. It might even be the first ever film to break that barrier, assuming it does as exceptionally well on Sunday as it has been doing over the past two days.
