“Beetlejuice” Getting A Sequel/Restart

Producer David Katzenberg along with “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” author Seth Grahame-Smith have just signed a two-year first-look feature producing deal at Warner Bros. Pictures says Deadline.

One of their first projects is expected to be a follow-up to Tim Burton’s 1988 supernatural comedy “Beetlejuice”. The film will NOT be a remake, rather the plan is to “reboot it by advancing the storyline of the original”.

Grahame-Smith did some scripting work for Burton on “Dark Shadows” and his script for “Beetlejuice 2” will be one of two scripts that are part of the first look deal. Burton also produced the upcoming film version of Grahame-Smith’s “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”.

Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder and Geena Davis all starred in the original “Beetlejuice” which followed a recently deceased young couple now trapped haunting their own home. Unsettled by the new family that’s moved into their house, they unfortunately release the rather vulgar and ultimately dangerous titular ghost.
