Ben Affleck has been selected (but is not yet signed) as director for the adaptation of Stephen King’s magnum opus “The Stand” at Warner Bros. Pictures and Vertigo Pictures says Deadline.
The novel, first published in 1978 and revised in 1990, is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. The survivors end up fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.
The length of the work has made it an extremely difficult property to adapt into a stand-alone feature film. The sole previous screen attempt was a 1994 mini-series on ABC.
