“Book of Mormon” Gets A Film Adaptation

“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have confirmed they intend to turn their Tony-winning Broadway comedy-musical hit “The Book of Mormon” into a theatrical feature reports EW.

The stage production stars Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad as a pair of Mormon missionaries attempting to find converts in Uganda. The story has been playing to sold out houses since opening in the Spring

A national tour kicks off in Colorado next Summer and Parker says “hopefully it will have a big run and a big tour and then we can do the movie in several years”. Parker, Stone and “Avenue Q” co-writer Robert Lopez penned the musical which was also helped by film producer Scott Rudin who also produced the pair’s last two big-screen outings – 1999’s “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” and 2004’s “Team America: World Police”.

Of adapting the property, Stone says “We want to do it some day. The great thing is, a lot of Broadway teams would have to go team up with a Hollywood producer and bring on a Hollywood director, but Trey’s a director and Scott’s a great producer. We’ve all made movies. So it’s kind of cool, it can stay in the same family.”
