“Bullhead” Director Enters The “Kingdom”

“Bullhead” director Michael R. Roskam has entered negotiations to helm the crime drama “Animal Rescue” at Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment.

The story follows a lonely Boston bartender who rescues a puppy from a garbage can and becomes the target of the dog’s abusive and mentally unstable former owner. At the same time he becomes caught up in the middle of a criminal conspiracy playing out in his mob-controlled bar.

The film is one of several projects trying to get Tom Hardy involved in the lead role. Dennis Lehane adapted the script from his own short story.

Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Jenno Topping and Mike Larocca are producing and shooting aims to begin next year. Neil Burger was previously attached to direct but has dropped out to helm “Divergent.”
