Casting: Machete, 13, Now, Fear, Fruitvale

Machete Kills
Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are rumoured to be in talks to return for Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming sequel “Machete Kills”.

If so they would likely be reprising their respective roles as Sartana and Luz from the first film. Shooting aims to kick off this Spring. [Source: Bloody Disgusting]

Agent 13
Charlize Theron and “Rise of the Apes” helmer Rupert Wyatt are teaming for the sci-fi action feature “Agent 13” from a script by T.S. Nowlin.

WME is shopping around the project with both names attached – as a result all the major studios are pursuing the project. Story details are being kept under wraps. [Source: Variety]

The Spectacular Now
Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants”) is attached to star and “Smashed” helmer James Ponsoldt is set to direct the film adaptation of Tim Tharp’s novel “The Spectacular Now” for Global Produce and 21 Laps.

The coming-of-age dramedy follows a teenage girl (Woodley) who convinces an alcoholic high school senior that his philosophy of living only for the moment may not be all it’s cracked up to be. [Source: Variety]

Nothing to Fear
Rebekah Brandes (“Bellflower”) has scored a leading role in Anthony Leonardi III’s indie horror-thriller “Nothing to Fear” for Slasher Films.

The story follows a family (Brandes, James Tupper, Anne Heche, Ethan Peck) that moves to a small town seeking a better life, only to run up against a charismatic but emotionally conflicted man of the cloth (Clancy Brown). [Source: Variety]

Fruitvale
Tristan Wilds and Melonie Diaz have joined the cast of the indie drama “Fruitvale” for Significant Productions.

Ryan Coogler penned and directs the film about Oscar Grant (Jordan), a 22-year-old black man detained on New Year’s Day 2009 by the Bay Area Rapid Transit police who was shot in the back and killed. [Source: The Hollywood Reporter]
