Casting News: McConaughey, Esper, Green

The Butler
Though previously linked, Matthew McConaughey has had to drop out of Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” due to a scheduling conflict with the long-gestating AIDS drama “The Dallas Buyer’s Club”.

McConaughey is working with filmmaker Jean Marc-Vallée on the script with shooting to begin this Fall. McConaughey denies the horrible reviews for Daniels’ “The Paperboy”, in which he plays a role, had any part in the decision. [Source: 24 Frames]

Runner Runner
Broadway actor Michael Esper has joined the cast of Brad Furman’s offshore online gambling thriller “Runner Runner” at New Regency and 20th Century Fox. Shooting kicks off in Puerto Rico this month.

Esper will play a tattooed man who is immersed in online gaming and works as an affiliate for the poker company at the center of the story. Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie, Oliver Cooper and Ben Schwartz also star. [Source: Variety]

CBGB
Ashley Greene (“Twilight”) has landed the female lead in Randall Miller’s “CBGB” about the influential New York music venue.

Greene is in talks to play Lisa Kristal, the fiery young daughter of CBGB owner Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) who frequently clashes with her father but ends up working as the business manager of his club. [Source: Variety]
