Twelve Years a Slave
A set photo on Twitter confirms that “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star Quvenzhane Wallis has joined Steve McQueen’s upcoming period drama “Twelve Years a Slave”.

The story follows an educated and married black man living in 1853 New York who was abducted and forced into over a decade of slavery in the south. Wallis looks to be playing his daughter. [Source: Twitter]

Winter’s Tale
William Hurt has scored the final major role in Akiva Goldsman’s “Winter’s Tale” at Warner Bros. Pictures. Shooting kicks off in October in New York.

Hurt plays the father of a dying young woman (Jessica Brown Findlay) who falls in love with a thief (Colin Farrell) who breaks into her home, a palatial West Side mansion, in a drama that takes place in 19th century and contemporary Manhattan.[Source: Deadline]

August: Osage County
After a memorable turn as the second season baddie in FX’s “Justified”, Margo Martindale has joined the cast of the film adaptation of award-winning play “August: Osage County”.

Martindale’s plays Mattie Fae Aiken, the sister of Meryl Streep’s character. Martindale begins filming her scenes in Oklahoma on September 24th. [Source: Deadline]

Peaky Blinders
Cillian Murphy will play Tommy, the most ruthless brother in a family of gangsters, in the six-part BBC Two drama “Peaky Blinders” from scribe Steven Knight (“Eastern Promises,” “Dirty Pretty Things”). Shooting kicks off in September ahead of airing in 2013.

Set in 1919 Birmingham, the ‘family’ rules the lawless post-war slum neighborhoods as returning soldiers, revolutionaries and criminals fight for survival. A Belfast police chief soon comes to clean up the city, while a mysterious woman with a dangerous secret also becomes involved. [Source: Deadline]
