Casting: Welling, Langella, Tennant, Asano

Parkland
Former “Smallville” star Tom Welling has scored a co-starring role in Peter Landesman’s ensemble drama “Parkland”. Paul Giamatti, Zac Efron, and Billy Bob Thornton also star.

The story is set in the hours following the assassination of JFK in Parkland Hospital. Open Road is in talks to distribute domestically this Fall. [Source: Deadline]

Reykjavik
Frank Langella has joined cast of Mike Newell’s “Reykjavik” at Scott Free and Participant Media. The film tells story of the 1986 peace summit between Ronald Reagan (Michael Douglas) and Mikhail Gorbachev (Christoph Waltz) in Iceland.

Langella will play Paul Nitze, United States Secretary of the Navy and Reagan’s most senior and trusted adviser. [Source: Deadline]

The Escape Artist
David Tennant is set to star in the three-part legal thriller “The Escape Artist” for BBC One. David Wolstencroft (“Spooks”) created the drama which began shooting today.

Ashley Jensen, Sophie Okonedo and Toby Kebbell also star in the story of a lawyer with a keen ability to get people out of tight legal corners. When his talents acquit the prime suspect in a horrific murder trial, his brilliance comes back to bite him. [Source: Deadline]

Ruined Heart
Scheduling is trying to be worked out so that Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano can star in Filipino filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz’s feature adaptation of his short “Ruined Heart”.

The story centers on a mother-and-son team of contract killers whose close bond crumbles as the son falls for a woman. [Source: THR]
