“Chronicle” Director Tackles “Venom”

Sony Pictures is negotiating with “Chronicle” director Josh Trank to take the helm of the Spider-Man spin-off feature “Venom” reports The Los Angeles Times.

The story would center on the monstrous villain who was a mainstay of the Marvel comics and appeared in the third “Spider-Man” film back in 2007 played by Topher Grace (who won’t be returning).

Plans for a “Venom” film have been in the works for almost five years now and at one time “The Hunger Games” director Gary Ross was attached to helm.

Jacob Estes (“The Details”) penned the previous script draft but a new writer and script are being sought.
