Craig, Goodman Join Clooney’s “Monuments”

The impressive cast just keeps growing and growing for George Clooney’s big-budget hunt for Nazi-stolen art treasure project “The Monuments Men” at Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox.

Daniel Craig, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville (“Downton Abbey”) and Bob Balaban (“Moonrise Kingdom”) are the latest names to join the on-screen ensemble which already includes Clooney, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett and Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”).

Clooney and his producing partner Grant Heslov are co-penning this adaptation of Robert M. Edsel’s book about a hand-picked group of art experts chosen by the U.S. government to retrieve artwork taken by the Nazis during World War II.

The team of American and British museum directors, curators, art historians all came together to find and return the treasures which Hitler systematically emptied from the museums and private collections of Europe. The action is set in the last eleven months of the war with the group sometimes working behind enemy lines.

Much of the same film crew behind Ben Affleck’s “Argo”, which Clooney produced, will serve in the same capacities here. Alexander Desplat is set for the score and shooting kicks off March 1st in Europe.
