Russell Crowe and Helena Bonham Carter are joining Hugh Jackman in the film musical adaptation of “Les Miserables” for Universal and Working Title says The Hollywood Reporter.
Set against the 19th century French rebellion, Crowe will play the uncompassionate police inspector Javert who is in relentless pursuit of Jean Valjean (Jackman), a man who stole bread to feed his sister and spent years in prison.
Carter would play Thenardier’s greedy wife. William Nicholson adapted the script from Claude-Michel Schoenberg’s musical score which itself was based on the Victor Hugo book.
