Danny Boyle Talks His Upcoming Slate

Filmmaker Danny Boyle (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “Sunshine”) was at SXSW over the weekend showing off “Trance” and doing publicity for his gonzo thriller. Boyle took the opportunity to talk about “Porno,” the sequel to his 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s “Trainspotting,” which he is finally turning more attention towards.

Boyle’s regular writing collaborator John Hodge (“Shallow Grave,” “Trance,” “The Beach”), who worked on the original “Trainspotting,” has begun work on the script for the sequel. Boyle says:

“This has been a long time coming. There’s always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John (Hodge) can produce a decent enough script, I don’t think there will be any barriers to Ewan [McGregor] or any of the cast coming back. I think they’ll wanna know that the parts are good so they don’t feel like they are letting anyone down.

The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people. That will be the only criteria I think.”

Boyle also says he’s working on two period pieces which would likely go first. One is an adaptation of a book he won’t reveal, and the other which is using a script by Hodge. This means “Porno” would likely hit in 2016 – on the twentieth anniversary of “Trainspotting”.
