Denzel Washington To Direct “Fences”

Denzel Washington says that he’s looking into directing a film adaptation of August Wilson’s play “Fences” which Washington himself starred in during a run on Broadway in 2010.

The story follows Pittsburgh sanitation employee Troy Maxon who once dreamt of a baseball career, only to be left facing down daily discrimination in a more menial line of work while grappling with his lost ambitions.

Washington says “The reason I did Fences is that Scott Rudin sent me the script August Wilson wrote – the only one of his plays that he wrote as a screenplay – to act and direct. I really do want to direct this.”

The project would mark Washington’s third time as director following “Antwone Fisher” and “The Great Debaters”.

Washington also says that despite rumours, Nicolas Winding Refn is not attached to “The Equalizer” reboot in which Washington is set to star.
