Toni Collette (“United States of Tara”) and Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire”) have joined Bill Bennett’s honor killing-themed thriller “Defiant” for The Little Film Company says Variety.
Based on true events, Patel will play a young Indian man trying to escape vengeful parents who want to kill him and his girlfriend to stop them marrying.
Collette will play Sally Lane, an Emmy-winning journalist who is drawn into the danger while covering the story. Bennett and Anupam Sharma are producing.
Shooting kicks off in North India in late October.
