Disney Plans “Big Hero 6” Animated Film

Disney Animation Studios is developing the Marvel comic mini-series “Big Hero 6” as an animated feature film reports It’s On the Grid (via Blue Sky).

Created in 1998, the Japan-based superhero team includes numerous Marvel characters such as Silver Samurai, GoGo Tomago, Honey Lemon, Hiro Takachiho, Baymax, Wasabi-No-Ginger, Sunpyre, Sunfire, Ebon Samurai and Fred.

Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) is directing the film which he apparently pitched to John Lasseter. Lasseter reportedly “liked his take on the subject and approved it for development” but the project hasn’t gotten the green light as yet. Yet apparently a potential 2014 release could happen. Kristina Reed is said to be producing.

One complication is that some of the characters originated in the “X-Men” comics and thus would not be able to appear as Fox owns the film rights to them.
