The Weinstein Company’s new subsidiary distribution company Radius-TWC is in negotiations to acquire U.S. distribution rights to the re-teaming of “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling in “Only God Forgives” says Deadline.
The hard R-rated drama, which features swordplay and mixed martial arts along with more explosive violence than “Drive”, has Gosling as the son of a Florida-based crime syndicate boss (Kristen Scott Thomas) involved in the drug trade in Thailand with his brother.
When his addicted sibling gets involved in a murder and gets tangled up with a dangerous and ruthless cop who calls himself the Angel of Vengeance, Gosling sets out to seek revenge on behalf of his mother.
Radius reportedly beat out the likes of CBS Films and “Drive” distributor FilmDistrict, the latter expected to get it but never closed the deal. A multi-platform release is likely towards year’s end.
