Fassbender To Star In “Assassin’s Creed”

Michael Fassbender has signed on to star in and produce a film adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit video game series “Assassin’s Creed” reports Heat Vision.

The “Shame” and “Prometheus” star will play Desmond Miles, a bartender who is a descendant of several lines of prominent assassins. The story weaves between present day and ancient times as Miles squares off with the Knights Templar.

No director or distributor is as yet attached, Fassy will produce through his own DMC Film production company label. Sony Pictures was previously attached to produce the film but that may no longer be the case. A 2014 release date is still being targeted.

Four games in the series have been produced thus far and have sold 30 million units. The first game was set in the Middle East during the time of the Crusades, the second through fourth games during the Italian Renaissance with the action taking place around various Italian cities and in Ottoman-era Constantinople. The upcoming “Assassin’s Creed III” is set during the American Revolutionary War.

Fassbender is currently shooting Steve McQueen’s “Twelve Years a Slave”.
