Fincher Out, Ang Lee Up For “Cleopatra”

David Fincher is out and Ang Lee is being courted to replace him at the helm of the “Cleopatra” biopic at Sony Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on Stacy Schiff’s bestselling book “Cleopatra: A Life”, Angelina Jolie remains attached to star as the Egyptian queen in this story which depicts her as a master strategist in politics and war.

No official offer is out yet to the “Brokeback Mountain” and “Life of Pi” helmer for the gig, but one is expected soon enough. Lee tops a wish list of replacements created by both the studio and producer Scott Rudin.

Fincher is just the latest name to have once been linked to the project and subsequently dropped out. Others have included James Cameron and Paul Greengrass.
