“Game of Thrones” Already Renewed?

British acting legend Charles Dance is best known to fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” as Tywin Lannister, the head of House Lannister and father to three of the major characters in the saga (Cersei, Tyrion, Jaime).

At a recent press conference for the second season Blu-ray release, Den of Geek got a comment from Dance suggesting that the show has already been renewed for a fourth season – even though the third isn’t slated to go to air until the end of the month.

Dance says that due to the scale of the show, and the preparation that goes into it, work has to start much earlier on a show like this than more straightforward dramas. Here’s the key quote:

“We’re about to start season four aren’t we? This year. We get scripts pretty early on, much earlier on than in similar series, usually you get perhaps one episode and you just have to trust that what’s going to come in subsequent episodes is going to be as good as the one you’ve got, but in this I think there are six scripts already written, and we will probably be able to see them with more than adequate time to prepare before we start shooting.”

According to the report, the panel moderator visibly panicked when Dance began talking about the fourth season. An HBO rep came in afterwards to say that HBO has not “officially” given the green light for a fourth season.
