Michael Gracey is attached to direct and Hugh Jackman to star in the P.T. Barnum-themed feature “The Greatest Showman on Earth” at 20th Century Fox says Variety.
Jenny Bicks (“Sex and the City”) penned the original contemporary musical in which Jackman will play Barnum, a showman with a penchant for hoaxing a gullible public, who becomes famous for creating the three-ring circus. The musical also explores Barnum’s infatuation with Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind.
Jackman, John Palermo and Laurence Mark (“Dreamgirls”) will produce. Gracey recently signed on to direct Disney’s revisionist Snow White pic “The Order of the Seven.”
