Hardy, Statham Up For “Escape” Remake?

Tom Hardy and Jason Statham are reportedly under consideration for the role of Snake Plissken in the upcoming reboot of “Escape from New York” at Silver Pictures and Studio Canal.

After several failed starts, producer Joel Silver and Studio Canal announced the other week they were coming together for what is being planned as a new trilogy of films based on John Carpenter’s 1980s cult classic, kicking off with an “origin story”.

According to the paper’s source, “Studio Canal wants to make sure they get one of the two men before the summer.”

Kurt Russell starred in the original about a convict dropped into a futuristic New York that has been turned into a post-apocalyptic maximum security prison. There he must rescue the U.S. President.
