IMAX Corporation have announced that both “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and the upcoming “Star Trek” sequel will be released in the IMAX format next year.
More importantly, both films will utilize IMAX cameras to shoot portions of the film. As with “The Dark Knight” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”, sequences shot with the extremely high-resolution cameras will switch aspect ratios to expand and fill the giant screens.
Abrams’ ‘Trek’ follow-up will also be released in the immersive IMAX 3D format. It is scheduled to open May 17th 2013, while “Catching Fire” hits on November 22nd.
