J.J. Abrams Finally Set For “Star Trek 2”

J.J. Abrams has finally committed to directing the “Star Trek” sequel according to Vulture.

The script will reportedly be completed by month’s end and that Abrams will start shooting this winter. Pre-production is already underway.

Abrams was always assumed to be directing but he almost stubbornly refused to commit to the project until it was closer to being ready. Now it seems to finally be set.

One reason for the delay has been scribe Alex Kurtzman’s commitments to his directing debut “Welcome to People” at DreamWorks Pictures. He’s reportedly finished with it, so now ‘Trek’ work is in full swing.

The release date for the ‘Trek’ follow-up will now be next December at the earliest or early Summer 2013.
