Warners has shaken up its schedule with three films getting delays. The big move is Bryan Singer’s “Jack and the Giant Killer 3D” being pushed back a full nine months from June 15th to March 22nd 2013 says The Hollywood Reporter.
The move has had a knock on effect for two other films. David Dobkin’s proposed “Arthur and Lancelot” fantasy epic was scheduled for a March 15th 2013 release, now its been pulled from the schedule with no new date set.
New Line’s “Rock of Ages” meanwhile is taking over the vacated spot by ‘Jack’ on June 15th, pushing back two weeks from its previously scheduled release on June 1st.
The delay isn’t a huge surprise, especially after the film’s first trailer lacked the buzz reaction of other films opening in the Summer.
Sandwiched between more anticipated fantasy epics “Snow White and the Huntsman” two weeks before, Pixar’s “Brave” the week after, not to mention other tentpole fare that month like “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus”, ‘Jack’ was definitely looking like the runt of the litter.
The move now means it has much more of a chance to stand on its own at a time of year when competition and expectations are less. Warners ain’t exactly short on films for the season either – even without ‘Jack’ it still has six films opening between late April and mid-August like “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Dark Shadows,” “Magic Mike,” “Rock of Ages,” “The Lucky One” and “Dog Fight”.
