“Lincoln Lawyer” Sequel On The Way

Lionsgate is working on a feature film sequel to “The Lincoln Lawyer”, their recent film adaptation of the Michael Connelly novel starring Matthew McConaughey says Variety.

Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns told CNBC that “‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ was a very successful movie for us, and we’re developing that with ABC. We’re going to do a sequel on ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ as well.”

The news comes four months after the company announced they and Lakeshore Entertainment were developing a TV drama series version for ABC. Connelly and the first film’s screenwriter John Romano are co-writing the pilot, no word on who would pen the film sequel.

‘Lawyer’ starred McConaughey as criminal defense attorney Michael “Mickey” Haller who does business from the back of a chauffeured Lincoln. Haller is the central character in four novels by Connelly (including ‘Lincoln’), and a side character in three others.

The character’s LAPD detective brother Harry Bosch is Connelly’s main go to character who has seventeen novels of his own and appears in two of the four Haller books. It’s likely the next film will be the sole remaining one without the author’s other characters – “The Fifth Witness” – which was released earlier this year.
