“Lorax” Producers To Animate “The Grinch”

Universal Pictures and “Despicable Me” creators Illumination Entertainment are teaming for a 3D computer-animated version of Dr. Seuss 1957 classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.

The story was previously adapted in 1966 into a half-hour TV animated special that still airs today. Universal made a live-action film back in 2000 starring Jim Carrey.

Commercials director Peter Candeland will helm, with Chris Meledandri producing. Seuss’ widow Audrey Geisel will executive produce.

Meledandri produced the 2008 CG animated version of “Horton Hears a Who!” at Fox. Universal and his Illumination company produced last year’s Seuss adaptation “The Lorax”.
