“Mad Max 4” No Longer Doing Broken Hill

Producers on the highly anticipated fourth movie in the “Mad Max” series have officially cancelled plans to shoot in the Australian outback town of Broken Hill despite years of preparation reports ABC News.

Unseasonal rains early last year left the normally arid Broken Hill region too fertile for filming which lead to the start of filming being delayed several months from April this year until January 2012. Heavy rains have continued in the area and have kept it too green for the post-apocalyptic film, which means production company Kennedy Miller Mitchell are now looking elsewhere.

Local council announced the decision today, a decision that has reportedly stripped the outback city of the $ 10-12 million in investments it was expecting to receive as a result of the production. The town’s mayor says “This decision hasn’t been taken lightly by KMM… but nature’s caused it, nothing else has caused it apart from nature.”

KMM has made no comment as to where the filming of “Mad Max: Fury Road” will now take place, but the decision has cost them as they already paid to use film studio space in Broken Hill. Back in March the film’s director George Miller said “We’ve built the vehicles. We’ve designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It’s all ready to go. We just wait.”
