Mads Mikkelsen Is Hannibal Lecter

He just won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival the other week, now Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen has landed another high profile gig – he’ll play Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the upcoming NBC series “Hannibal” says Variety.

“Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller is producing the series which expands upon the early events alluded to in Thomas Harris’ novel “Red Dragon”. The story will be set in Lecter’s early days and the time he and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) work together to solve crimes, the latter unaware of the former’s psychopathic tendencies.

Mikkelsen is best known for his role as the villain Le Chiffre in 2006’s “Casino Royale”. Filming will begin shortly for the 13-episode first season which will likely debut early next year.
