MGM has set newcomer Nic Pizzolatto (HBO’s upcoming “True Detectives”) to pen the remake of Western classic “The Magnificent Seven” to which Tom Cruise is currently attached says Variety.
The original, itself a remake of the Kurosawa classic “Seven Samurai”, follows a group of American gunmen hired to protect a small Mexican village from a group of savage bandits.
Meanwhile Bill Wheeler (“The Reluctant Fundamentalist,” “The Hoax”) is set to adapt Bryan Christy’s non-fiction novel “The Lizard King” for Fox 2000.
David Frankel (“Hope Springs”) is attached to direct the romantic caper about a female Fish and Wildlife agent’s attempts to catch and successfully prosecute a wily international reptile smuggler (and his reckless partner father) based in Miami in the 1990’s.
