César Award winner Matthias Schoenaerts (“Rust and Bone”) has scored a supporting role in “Animal Rescue” at Fox Searchlight. Schoenaerts will re-team with his “Bullhead” director Michael Roskam on the project.
Schoenaerts says: “I’ll be shooting in New York with Michael Roskam, we’re shooting his first American feature film. I have a supporting role in that, and I really look forward to it.”
Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace have lead roles in the project, which is based on the short story by Dennis Lehane.
The story follows a lonely New York bartender (Harmy), caught in the midst of a bad heist and a killing, who rescues a puppy from a garbage can.
He soon becomes the target of the dog’s abusive and mentally unstable former owner. The production is aiming for a Spring shoot.
