A Harvard math student has come up with an elaborate system for predicting Oscars based on all sorts of criteria. The full list of potential winners is up at Oscar Forecast.

“Fox Searchlight has announced a June 29th limited theatrical release date for this year’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner “Beasts of the Southern Wild”. The film opens opposite “Take this Waltz” in limited release, and both “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Magic Mike” in wide release…” (full details)

“AMPAS has pulled actor Sacha Baron Cohen‘s tickets from the 84th Academy Awards. This means he is banned from attending the Oscars even though he is an Academy member and one of the stars from Hugo, Paramount’s 11-nominated movie and Best Picture contender…” (full details)

“More DVD/Blu-ray release dates – “War Horse” on April 3rd, “Shame” on April 17th, “Haywire” on May 1st, “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie” and “Playback” on May 8th, “Albert Nobbs” on May 15th, “Goon” on May 29th, …” (full details)

““Safe House” director Daniel Espinosa’s Swedish thriller “Snabba Cash,” has finally been set for a July 27th U.S. domestic limited theatrical release by the Weinstein Company under the title “Easy Money”…” (full details)

“The 2009 Swedish-language version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” and the series premiere of “Downton Abbey” were the most watched film and series episode respectively in the first year of Amazon’s ‘Prime’ Instant Video service…” (full details)

“Paramount is suing the estate of author Mario Puzo to stop a new “Godfather” book being published as they don’t want the new work tarnishing the legacy of the famed franchise…” (full details)

With “John Carter” opening in two weeks (I’ve seen the film but can’t comment on it yet), the official trailers and promos so far haven’t really inspired audiences according to early tracking figures. A few days ago TheJohnCarterFiles.com cut together this fan-made trailer using existing trailers and clips, resulting in a preview that does a much better job explaining the movie’s concept, storyline, and even its historical significance than any of the studio-approved ones thus far.
