Open Road Acquires “End of Watch”

Open Road films is locking down a deal to acquire U.S. distribution rights to “Harsh Times” and “Street Kings” filmmaker David Ayer’s cop drama “End Of Watch” reports Deadline.

The story follows two LAPD partners and best friends (Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena), and scored a lot of free publicity last year as Gyllenhaal shaved himself bald for his role – leading to a lot of paparazzi snaps taken whilst he was shooting.

Originally conceived as a found footage drama, it became a more traditional film during production but still features a lot of footage from the P.O.V. of surveillance cameras.

Open Road is planning a 2000 screen run with a $ 2 million guarantee and a $ 20 million P&A commitment – just a fraction less than the $ 8 million/$ 25 million deal they made for “The Grey” which has pulled in a solid $ 50 million domestically.
