Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus,” “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) has been offered the female lead role opposite Tom Hardy in Michael R. Roskam’s adaptation of the Dennis Lehane short story “Animal Rescue” at Fox Searchlight.
The drama focuses on a man who wants to shed his criminal path but somehow gets mixed up in a bad heist and a killing resulting from a lost and contested pit bull.
The story appeared in the anthology book “Boston Noir.” “Shutter Island” and “Mystic River” author Lehane adapted the screenplay himself. Shooting aims to kick off in March in New York.
The project marks Hardy’s immediate next effort following on from “Mad Max: Fury Road” which just wrapped a six-month shoot in Namibia.
