Production has been abruptly shut down on Albert Hughes’ revenge drama “Motor City” at Warner Bros. Pictures. Crew members have been advised to return home says Deadline.
Shooting was to kick off on September 17th with Gerard Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody starring in the story of man who gets out of prison and is bent on revenge against those who framed him. It’s a unique film in that the script has less than a dozen lines of spoken words across 70 pages.
So why the halt? The film’s backers – including Emmett/Furla Films, Envision Entertainment, and Foresight Entertainment – reportedly realised that the “hard release date” that Warners had given them meant the film could only have twelve weeks of post-production.
That’s not nearly enough time to complete the complicated visual effects. As a result it was “impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film”.
Without said studio release to justify foreign distribution deals, they could not secure a bond and thus can not move forward.
The film could come back, but if it does it’ll likely be a different looking beast.
