Previously working on the project as a creative consultant, Martin Scorsese has fully come onboard as a hands-on executive producer on the Luc Besson-directed project.
EuropaCorp and Relativity are producing the film in which Robert De Niro plays a retired mob boss who moves to a small town in France’s Normandy with his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) and teenage daughter (Dianna Agron), as part of the witness protection program. They soon get caught up in old habits.
The story was adapted by Besson and Michael Caleo from Tonino Benacquista’s novel “Badfellas.” The film is set for a release in October.
Meanwhile, “The Place Beyond The Pines” director Derek Cianfrance and star Bradley Cooper are not re-teaming on the “Chef” project which Cooper and “The Intouchables” star Omar Sy are attached to.
Cianfrance tells Premiere: “No, I will not direct this film. But I can say that Omar Sy has a lot of talent. I hope to one day have the opportunity to work with him… I read the script, and it’s great, and Omar and Bradley are great. But it’s not me who will make the film.”
Steven Knight’s script follows a drug-addled chef who moves his restaurant from Paris to London in order to capture a three-star Michelin rating.
