Scribes: Hefner, Fantastic, Machine, Ghostman

Peter Morgan (“The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) is in negotiations to pen the Hugh Hefner biopic, which Jerry Weintraub is producing at Warner Bros. Pictures, says THR.

Morgan met with Hefner on Tuesday, the latter confirming the news in a tweet saying ”I had a good meeting today with screenwriter Peter Morgan discussing a film about my life.”

Meanwhile Heat Vision reports that Jeremy Slater has been hired to pen the script for the reboot of “Fantastic Four” at 20th Century Fox. “Chronicle” director Josh Trank is attached to helm

Slater’s horror spec “Tape 4”, which centers around the mythology of writer H.P. Lovecraft, is set up at Lionsgate with Primal Pictures.

Then, “Smallville” creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are in final negotiations to re-write the Vin Diesel-starring action comedy “The Machine” at MGM reports Deadline.

Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant wrote the original script about a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon that was decommissioned and buried – only to be reactivated and befriended by a kid twenty years later.

Finally, Variety reports that Peter Craig (“The Town”) will pen an adaptation of Roger Hobbs’ novel “The Ghostman” for Warner Bros. Pictures. Kevin McCormick will produce.

The story follows a man who helps fugitives disappear and is dragged into a casino heist gone bad with his mentor caught in the middle.
