“The Descendants” actress Shailene Woodley is in early talks to play Mary Jane Watson in the proposed “The Amazing Spider-Man” sequel at Sony Pictures says Variety.
With casting about to begin, character breakdowns have gone out to talent agencies with not just Mary Jane Watson joining this outing. Turns out Harry Osborn and an unspecified villain are also being cast soon.
Woodley is the studio’s leading choice for Mary Jane and, if cast, would join returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Electro is also rumored to be one of the villains thanks to the post-credits sequence of the first film involving a shadowy figure and lots of lightning (Electro has the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning).
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the film which will begin shooting early next year for a release May 2014.
