20th Century Fox has acquired “The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto” for Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps to produce says Deadline.
The story is being a pitched as a “Big Fish”-esque prequel to “Pinocchio” and follows Geppetto as he endures a life of misfortune, war and adventure all to be with his true love Julia Moon.
“Real Steel” director Levy is also attached to direct from a screenplay by Michael Vukadinovich. Levy is next slated to direct a version of “Frankenstein” for the studio.
Dan Cohen and Billy Rosenberg will produce. The project is not to be confused with a live action “Pinocchio” film setup at Warners last year that Tim Burton expressed interest in.
