Not only did “Skyfall” reclaim the top spot at the domestic box office this past weekend with $ 11 million, the latest James Bond film has smashed a new record.
After nearly a month-and-a-half release in global markets, “Skyfall” has now taken in $ 918 million worldwide. That makes it the highest-grossing film ever released by Sony Pictures, beating out previous record holder “Spider-Man 3.”
Domestically “Skyfall” has taken in $ 261.2 million, just a few million behind “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” which has pulled in $ 268.7 million. Both are now the biggest earning films in their respective franchises.
Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” is staying steady with a $ 97 million domestic gross so far, while “Life of Pi” sits at $ 61 million in the United States. The field is expected to be shaken up next week with the arrival of Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
