Sony Drops “The Boys,” “Mortal Instruments”

Sony Pictures has cancelled plans for both an adaptation of Garth Ennis’s violent comic “The Boys” and the kid-lit adaptation “The Mortal Instruments” reports Heat Vision.

Adam McKay (“Anchorman”) had been writing the screenplay with an eye to direct ‘Boys’ which revolves around government lackies that monitor the reckless behavior of superheroes. With a costly $ 100 million budget and very R-rated material, it was always only a slim chance that the film would’ve gotten made.

More likely was an adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s ‘Mortal’ series about a teenage girl (Lily Collins) who teams with a renegade angel (Jamie Campbell Bower) in a war with demons.

Despite the withdrawal of both Sony and director Scott Stewart (“Legion”), who, Constantin Films remain committed to making the film but will need to find further financing.
