“Speed,” “Slave,” “Kon-Tiki” Set Dates

A bunch of release date news and changes to report today.

The Weinstein Company has scheduled the Oscar-nominated Norwegian historical action adventure “Kon-Tiki” for a U.S. release on April 26th. The English-language version, shot simultaneously with the Norwegian version, is the one being released.

Sony Pictures has moved up the ensemble apocalyptic comedy “This is the End” by two days for a June 12th release.

Fox Searchlight has moved up the romantic comedy “Baggage Claim” by a month to September 27th. Paula Patton, Derek Luke and Taye Diggs star.

Searchlight has also announced a December 27th U.S. release date for Steve McQueen’s “Twelve Years a Slave,” putting the historical drama up for potential awards contention. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt star.

Disney has pushed back DreamWorks’ “Need for Speed” by five weeks to a March 14th 2014.

Finally, Warner Brothers has pushed back production on the comedy “Mail Order Groom” to next year due to Steve Carell and Tina Fey having a scheduling conflict.
