Spielberg’s “E.T.” Returns To Cinemas

With all the hype surrounding “Jaws” last month and the “Indiana Jones” trilogy this month, it’s easy to forget one of Steven Spielberg’s other early classics is also making the jump to Blu-ray shortly – “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial”.

To celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, and the upcoming digitally remastered Blu-ray release on October 9th, Fathom Events has announced that the film will return to the big screen for one night only on October 3rd at 7pm local time (and special matinee screenings earlier that afternoon at 2pm).

NCM Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Universal Pictures are teaming for the screening which will include a taped introduction featuring Drew Barrymore reflecting on the movie three decades later.

Tickets, theater locations and prices are available through NCM Fathom Events website with 560 select movie theaters expected to be participating in the presentation.

With these releases, and “Catch Me if You Can” coming in December, this leaves only a handful of Spielberg-directed features not yet out in the Blu-ray format. Yet to make the jump are the likes of “Duel,” “Munich,” “Amistad,” “1941,” “Always,” “The Sugarland Express” and “The Terminal”.

Two of his most famous – “Schindler’s List” and “Empire of the Sun” – were slated for release on Blu-ray sometime this year but there’s no specific dates as yet. Both are now likely not to make their debut until sometime in 2013.
