With Gary Ross out, Lionsgate is now scrambling to find a replacement to take the helm of “The Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire”. It is going to be tricky – it has to be someone who make sure they can keep on schedule for an August start of filming, and someone whom author Suzanne Collins will be happy with.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Lionsgate has come up with a ‘master list’ of around 7-8 names who fit the criteria. Three names on the list are Alfonso Cuaron (“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”), David Cronenberg (“A History of Violence”) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“Babel”).
A selection and deal is expected to be closed quickly so whomever gets the job can get to work on fixing up the script with scribe Simon Beaufoy and author Suzanne Collins.
