Filming hasn’t even begun on the adaptation of “Catching Fire”, the second book in Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” trilogy, yet Lionsgate is already making plans for the third.
The studio has announced today that, following in the wake of “Harry Potter” and “Twilight” before it, they intend to split the final book into two separate films. They’ve also announced release dates for the dual films reports Deadline.
Thus “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” is scheduled to hit cinemas on November 21st 2014, while “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” is now targeting a November 20th 2015 release. With ‘Catching Fire’ hitting next November, it would seem the studio intends to lock down the Thanksgiving weekend for the next few years.
