“Town That Dreaded Sundown” Remade

MGM is developing a remake of Charles B. Pierce’s 1976 horror feature “The Town that Dreaded Sundown.”

The story is set in 1946 follows a Texas Ranger who hunts for a hooded serial killer terrorizing the residents of Texarkana, a small town on the border between Texas and Arkansas.

What made it different to other slashers of the time is that it was a semi-documentary. Events are based on the real life case of the ‘Texarkana Moonlight Murders’, five unsolved killings by a hooded man over a three month period.

MGM has reportedly been asking agents for possible takes from writers for the property.

The project is yet another of MGM’s properties it has been exploring the remake or reboot potential of since it came out of bankruptcy last year. Others on the way include “Carrie,” “Robocop” and “The Magnificent Seven.”
