Walker Set As “Great Wall” Pushed Back

On Friday, Benjamin Walker (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) was locked for the secondary male lead opposite Henry Cavill in Ed Zwick’s period action thriller “The Great Wall” at Legendary Pictures.

Now however, the entire project has been pushed back by half a year with filming in the Fall now moved to start next spring reports Deadline.

The delays have lead to premature reports of the project collapsing, a familiar scenario for Walker who was cast as Lucifer in Legendary’s “Paradise Lost” adaptation before it fell apart last year over budgetary issues.

The reason for this delay however is said to be weather as the Chinese and New Zealand locations are said to be much easier to shoot in the Spring. As the project is the first effort from the company’s new Legendary East division, there’s a definite push by all those involved to make sure it will go ahead.

Zhang Ziyi and various other Chinese talents are being courted for the film which is set in 15th century China and follows a group of British warriors who happen upon the hurried construction of the massive wall.

As night falls, the warriors realize that the haste in building the wall isn’t just to keep out the Mongols but rather something inhuman and more dangerous.
