Warners, Hardy Develop Two Poaching Films

How do you make sure your film gets made? You create your own rival.

Tobey Maguire‘s Material Pictures, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way and Tom Hardy‘s Executive Options have put into development a second film about illegal poaching and endangered species trafficking says Deadline.

The first film, previously announced back in April, is described as “Traffic”-esque in that it follows several different story lines about the impact of animal-trafficking at different points along the chain.

These include the ground war on poachers in the African savanna to the end products in places like the high-end fashion houses of Paris. A writer is still being sought but all three aforementioned actors could have roles.

The second one is an untitled project which has just been announced and is being penned by “Up In The Air” co-writer Sheldon Turner as a star vehicle for Hardy.

Hardy would play a former Special Forces soldier who signs on with a friend to work in the African bush, training rangers to fight off the poachers decimating the rhino and elephant populations in Zimbabwe.

The soldier falls in love with the land, and the animals he is trying to save.
