“Wolverine” Gets A Date, “Mad Max” Doesn’t

Two long-gestating genre franchise sequels due in 2013 are new entries in the “Wolverine” and “Mad Max” franchises. The news looks rosy for the former today, the latter however doesn’t have it so good.

First up Hugh Jackman confirmed via his Twitter feed that shooting on “The Wolverine” has finally scheduled dates with shooting to commence in August. Filming looks to be kicking off in Sydney before moving to Japan.

One film originally slated to shoot in Australia but is now headed to Namibia is “Mad Max: Fury Road”. However when that film will be done remains in question. Some reports suggested the project could shoot as early as next month, film crew are already there doing pre-production work, but comments to Empire Online from Tom Hardy at Cannes this week suggest a schedule is still not quite locked.

“We keep moving that [start date] around, you know?. Who knows when it’ll come out? I’ve been on stand-by for two years… but it’s all part of it. It’s kind of the cool thing to do, to be elusive with dates and all that” says the “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises” actor who was in France for the premiere of “Lawless”.

Hardy also joked about the rumours of a shrinking shooting schedule – “It was going to be a year of filming, then six months, and now we’re supposed to be doing it in six days. It’s a musical – we’re going to go around shopping centres in a little wagon and sing songs. People were expecting big, but we’re going to give them small. It’ll be a live, free-running musical and it’s coming to a place near you soon.”
